Teacher Eligibility Test (TET)

Teacher Eligibility Test, popularly known as the TET exam is the common test conducted to recruit teachers in government-run schools across India. TET is the state government-conducted recruitment test for teachers and is conducted under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009.

The TET aims to –

• Establish a national benchmark and standards for the recruitment of quality teachers
• Improve the performance standards of educational institutions and students
• Communicate the focus of the state and central government of maintaining teaching quality

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is responsible to maintain the TET database, manage the TET syllabus and guide the government bodies to conduct the exam. Candidates who have qualified for the TET are ONLY eligible to be appointed as teachers in state schools and would be recruited for teaching posts like –

• Primary Teachers (PRTs): For classes I-V
• Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs): For classes VI-X
• Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs): For classes XI-XII

TET 2021 Eligibility Criteria

The candidates appearing for TET exam 2021 should have –

• Obtained a bachelor’s degree from any recognized university or institute
• Secured a minimum of 45% marks.
• Obtained any of the valid education or elementary education degrees, such as Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.), Diploma in Elementary Education (D.EL.Ed), or Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)

• Experience Certificate
• Caste Certificate (For non-general category)

TET Syllabus 2021

TET consists of two papers –

• Paper 1 – For candidates planning to teach the students of classes I – V
• Paper 2 – For candidates planning to teach the students of classes VI-VIII

All questions asked in TET exam 2021 will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), each carrying one mark, with four options. There is no negative marking. The examining body will be strictly adhering to the structure and content of the TET syllabus 2021 specified below.

3. Language – II – Marks: 30
4. Mathematics – Marks: 30
5. Environmental studies – Marks: 30    

Paper 2

5. Science – Marks: 60
6. Social studies/social sciences – Marks: 60
